What the Romanian levels mean

Word counts are word families from a Romanian frequency list built from real videos: the approximate vocabulary needed at each level.

How does it work?
You see Romanian words, from very common to rare, and say whether you know each one. Some are made-up words, which tells us how much to trust a "yes". A few multiple-choice meaning checks confirm the estimate. The test adapts to your answers, so 3 minutes is enough.
How accurate is it?
Vocabulary size is the single best predictor of how much Romanian you understand when reading and listening. The test places you within about one CEFR sub-level; your level keeps updating as you watch videos and look words up.
What happens after the test?
You get Romanian videos where you already know about 95% of the words: enough to follow the story and pick up a few new words every minute.
