My loves, today I'm going to tell you a traditional legend from the Caribbean culture of Colombia,

and after I tell you that legend, we're going to have some listening comprehension questions,

así que quédense hasta el final.

so stay until the end.

Esta es la historia del Hombre Caimán.

This is the story of the Caiman Man.

Several years ago, in the municipality of Plato, Magdalena, on the Colombian Caribbean coast, there was a man named Saúl.

Saúl era mujeriego,

Saúl was a womanizer.

le encantaban todas las mujeres ,

He loved all women,

no le importaba si eran casadas, si no estaban casadas, si tenían novio,

he didn't care whether they were married, whether they weren't married, whether they had a boyfriend,

el hombre era adicto a las mujeres.

the man was addicted to women.

His hobby was music, and he used it to serenade women and entangle them in his charms.

Saúl was a fisherman and knew the Magdalena River very well,

and he knew there was a place on the river where the women bathed naked.

Pero obviamente ningún hombre podía llegar allá.

But obviously no man could get there.

And Saúl, with his perverted mind, got the idea that if he turned into a caiman,

since the Magdalena River is full of caimans, he could go unnoticed while he watched the women bathing in the river.

So Saúl went and looked for a shaman and told him his idea,

and the shaman prepared two potions for him, one red and one white.

The red potion made Saúl turn into a caiman,

and the white potion made him turn back into a man.

Then Saúl went to the Magdalena River with his two potions and his best friend.

Le dio las indicaciones a su amigo,

He gave his friend the instructions.

He told him he had to pour the red potion first,

that he would turn into a caiman and then come back, and when he saw him, he should pour the white potion on him to turn into a man.

Saúl's friend poured the red potion on him, and boom!

Saúl turned into a caiman, got into the river and delighted in the women bathing.

And just as they were leaving, he returned to the shore where his friend was waiting for him.

But when his friend saw a caiman coming toward him, he got very scared and dropped the white potion.

A few drops splashed onto Saúl's head, and that part of his body went back to being a man's.

But Saúl was left with the rest of his body in the form of a caiman.

And that is where the Caiman Man was born, in Plato, Magdalena.

From then on, Saúl kept going to the river with his plan anyway,

but the women already knew that it wasn't a caiman that was there,

and little by little they stopped going to the place where they used to bathe.

And the Caiman Man still wanders, sad and alone, along the banks of the Magdalena River.

Esa fue la historia del Hombre Caimán.

That was the story of the Caiman Man.

It should be made clear, first, that it is a story from the oral tradition

that has been passed down from generation to generation, and that is why there are some different versions of the story,

pero decidí contarles esta versión.

but I decided to tell you this version.
